As Holmes presented his final 'Sunrise' on Sky News after 11 years, his farewell speech seemed to be accidentally cut off.

Veteran newscaster Eamonn Holmes was controversially cut off during a farewell speech he delivered at the end of his final broadcast as lead anchor of Sky News’ ‘Sunrise’, a post he has quit after 11 years.

On Thursday's edition of the programme (October 13th), the 56 year old host was honoured by his colleagues as “the king of breakfast TV” as they rolled a video montage of his highlights on ‘Sunrise’ over the years. As the programme came to a close, his female colleagues Nazaneen Ghaffar, Isabel Webster and Jacquie Beltrao gave him a group hug – but before he could say his final thanks, the credits rolled and he was cut off.

56 year old Holmes has been the lead anchor of Sky News' breakfast show 'Sunrise' since 2005, and will be stepping down in October.

Northern Irish TV host Eamonn Holmes is to step down as the anchor of Sky News’s breakfast show ‘Sunrise’, after 11 years in the job.

Announcing his departure in a Facebook post on Thursday (September 1st), the 56 year old presenter said he needed “step away from the daily studio commitment for a while” and pursue personal projects.

Belfast-born Holmes has presented ‘Sunrise’ since 2005, having arrived at Sky from ITV where he had hosted GMTV for 12 years since 1993. However, he will continue presenting ITV’s ‘This Morning’ breakfast show alongside his wife, Ruth Langsford. Holmes also works for Channel 5 on game show ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ and the documentary series ‘How the Other Half Lives’.

Shocking! David Blaine To Spend Three Days In Lightning Storm

By Michael West in Movies / TV / Theatre on 03 October 2012

David Blaine Eamonn Holmes

David Blaine is back and more shocking than ever. For his next trick, the US performance artist will spend three days and three nights amid an artificial lightning storm. So what does this mean exactly? Well, Blaine will essentially stand amongst seven Tesla coils – electrical columns that shoot out a constant stream of lighting.

Speaking at the launch event on Tuesday (October 2, 2012), Blaine was quoted by the BBC as saying, “I had wanted to do this for years.” Though most people would cite jumping from a plane, swimming with sharks or driving a Ferrari as their most extreme desires, it seems the 39-year-old is pretty set on wearing a chain-mail suit and readily inviting electrical shocks. Blaine demonstrated how the stunt – named ‘Electrified: One Million Volts Always On’ – will work on Tuesday, shooting arcs of lightning out of his hands. The body suit will act as a barrier between himself and the extremely powerful electrical current while a visor and helmet will protect his eyes from ultraviolet radiation.

David Blaine’s street magic brought him early fame, though his past stunts have included sitting in a Perspex box in London for 44 days and standing on a pillar in New York for 35 hours. He’s also known for freaking out Eamonn Holmes on live UK television.
