Robin Thicke is an American singer/songwriter, best known for his controversial 2013 single, 'Blurred Lines'.

Childhood: Robin Thicke was born to Canadian actor Alan Thicke and American singer and actress, Gloria Loring, in Los Angles, California. He has an older brother, Brennan, who worked as a voice-actor in the 1980s. When Thicke was seven-years-old, his parents separated. Thicke's father refused to pay for his vocal group, after he recorded his first demo as a teenager. Jazz singer Al Jarreau, the uncle of one of the group's members, ended up paying for the group's demo. The demo was heard by singer/songwriter Brian McKnight, who later helped Thicke by inviting him to his recording studio to contribute to his second studio album. At the age of sixteen, Thicke signed a contract with Interscope Records. With his career in the music industry beginning, Thicke moved out and lived by himself at the age of seventeen.

Career: Robin Thicke prepared for his debut studio album, 'Cherry Blue Skies', in 2000. It took until 2002 before he released his debut single, 'When I Get You Alone'. With only moderate success, Thicke released his debut album, now titled 'A Beautiful World', in 2003. The album opened at number 150 on the Billboard 200 List. On 3rd October, 2006, Thicke released his second studio album, titled 'The Evolution of Robin Thicke', which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 List. Two years later, Thicke released 'Something Else' - his third studio album, on 30th September, 2008. It debuted at number 3 on Billboard's 200 List. The following year, he released 'Sex Therapy: The Session', on 15th December 2009, debuting at number 9 on the list. On 6th December 2011, Thicke released his fifth studio album, 'Love After War'. On 26th March, 2013, Thicke released the first single from his upcoming sixth studio album, both of which were entitled 'Blurred Lines'. The song received a large amount of controversy for its lyrics and sexual connotations. The album was first released in Germany on 12th July, 2013, before being released in the US on 30th of the same month. In June, 2014, Thicke announced that he was working on a seventh studio album, entitled 'Paula', which was to be entirely dedicated to his estranged ex-wife. The album was released on 1st July, 2014, despite reaching the 9th spot on Billboard's list, the album only just sold over 500 copies in the UK and Canada in its first week.

Personal Life: Robin Thicke first met Paula Patton at the age of 14, in 1991. Two years later, at the age of 16, the couple began to date, and they were married in 2005. In 2010, Thicke and Patton had a child together, named Julian Fuego Thicke. In February, 2014, they separated, with Patton filing for divorce on 9th October 2014.

After five years of legal wrangling, Thicke and Pharrell Williams must pay out nearly $5 million to the family of Marvin Gaye.

A final ruling has been handed down in the long-running copyright dispute case concerning ‘Blurred Lines’, with its creators Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams being ordered to pay out $5 million to the family of Marvin Gaye.

The verdict brings to an end a legal battle that began over five years ago, when the estate of the late soul singer Marvin Gaye launched a lawsuit claiming that Thicke and Williams’ 2013 smash hit ‘Blurred Lines’ copied substantial parts of Gaye’s 1977 single ‘Got To Give It Up’.

Gaye’s family won the initial case over three years ago now, but Thicke and Williams appealed the verdict.

She described the concept behind the video as “so bad”, and revealed that it took some serious persuasion for her to appear in the first place.

Robin Thicke will have to pay a little less to the family of Marvin Gaye over his hit ‘Blurred Lines’.

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have received a little bit of good news regarding their ‘Blurred Lines’ copyright case, after a judge trimmed more than $2 million from the damages the duo were ordered to pay to the family of Marvin Gaye.

On July 14th US district judge John A Kronstadt ruled that $2 million should be cut from the $7.4 million total which had been decided on back in March, bringing the sum down to $5.3 million. Kronstadt said that he had made the reducTIon as the original award was not supported by the evidence.

After a thoroughly miserable 18 months, Robin Thicke seems to have reached a sense of perspective with regards to his recent troubles, looking back on his rise and fall in a revealing new interview with the New York Times.

The 38 year old R&B star achieved worldwide fame for his 2013 hit ‘Blurred Lines’, which was the biggest selling single in the world that year. However, that fame slowly turned to notoriety, after the song’s lyrics were accused of being “rape-y” and was the subject of a multi-million dollar copyright infringement case that found that Thicke and collaborator Pharrell Williams had ripped off Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got To Give It Up’.
