Comedian returns for the first time since record breaking live tour

It’s been revealed that Peter Kay will be launching a landmark new comedy on BBC, with the Bolton comic returning with new comedy Car Share.

From the sound of the scenario it sounds like another bout of typical Peter Kay fare, with the story surrounding a supermarket worker forced to spend his commute with a colleague as part of a company car-share scheme. Also directed by Kay, the series is going to be ground breaking for the Beeb because it will be getting shown on BBC iPlayer first, before it appears on television screens. The iPlayer service is usually a catch-up service, but the broadcasting company are trialling 40 hours of new programming online that won’t be available on TV beforehand. "It is hugely exciting that Peter Kay is coming to BBC One with his new series - even more so with the innovative plan we have to launch the show online” said BBC One controller Danny Cohen.

Kay is the first comedian to sell 10 million DVDs in the UK and in 2010 and 2011 he broke the record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour, which was see by 1.1 million across 113 arenas. He said of his new project "To be finally working with the BBC on a new comedy is a great opportunity. And the idea of two people car sharing to work each day really appealed to me, as it highlights the comedy in the minutia of the daily trek and allows the spiralling conversations of life to unwind in all of their glory."
