Rod's early years

Stewart was born on 10 January 1945 to a working-class family in London.

Rod has described his childhood as "fantastically happy" and it was where he picked up the hobby of railway modelling, which he continues to do to this day.

Before embarking on his career in music, the young star worked a number of odd jobs, including newspaper rounds and wallpaper printing.
