Wildfire marks the next chapter in Loreen’s extraordinary journey

Easter Sunday may be just over a week away, but for someone whose true religion is music, I'm more attuned to the “sounds” of salvation.

Cue the hallelujah chorus… because Loreen’s long-awaited album Wildfire has finally arrived. It's about time, took just over, I don't know, a decade! If patience is a virtue, then I must be a saint.

Loreen/ / WildFire

Loreen needs no introduction, but for anyone who’s been living under a rock, here’s a quick refresher:

The Swedish-Moroccan powerhouse shot to stardom after winning the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with the club banger Euphoria - a track that dominated charts across Europe and cemented its place in Eurovision history. Since then, her star power has only grown, culminating in her triumphant return to the stage in 2023 with the haunting single Tattoo.

With a comeback more greater than the resurrection of Jesus Christ (full disclosure: I was raised Christian before anyone shouts blasphemy), Wildfire, arriving fourteen years after her debut album Heal, marks the next chapter in Loreen’s odyssey.

Carl Jung once said, “The shadow is ninety percent pure gold.” Few artists embody that truth like Loreen, who takes listeners on a profound voyage through the sonic landscapes of her soul.

While most people are taught to suppress their darkness, Loreen alchemises it into light. Wildfire is an ode to her nomadic roots, a deeply personal and spiritual exploration of humanity in all its complexity.

Listening to the album feels like performing a mental excavation - an invitation to slow down and confront harsh realities with unvarnished introspection.

Reminding us that we all have a duty to continually reflect and consciously critique our past selves, without the comfort of externalising blame or internalising anything that might absolve us.

There is no black or white - only infinite shades of grey.

Wholeness doesn’t come from taking the moral high ground, it comes from walking through the shadows.

Forged in the "Wildfire", Loreen emerges from the ashes like a phoenix, reborn through her latest project.

The 13-track album features standout songs like the God-sent single Feels Like Heaven, co-written with Sia. Infused with both of their DNAs, it is authentic, raw, transcendental, and ethereal. Fan favorites like Is It Love and Tattoo are also included, along with the monumental title track, Wildfire.

Other gems include Where Do We Go From Here, Can’t Pull Me Down, Melt, and Lose That Light. Reflective, emotional, euphoric, and transformative, the album balances light and dark, intimacy and intensity, vulnerability and strength.

Wildfire is a call to reclaim your self-sovereignty and a testament to the healing power of music.

"This is the flame that refuses to die. This is the storm that purifies..."
