Olivia Rodrigo's new album is coming in June and sees her enter her 'sad girl' era
Olivia Rodrigo has announced her third album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, revealing the June 12 release was inspired by her time in London and packed with “sad love songs” as she opens up about the raw, terrifying beauty of falling in love.
Olivia Rodrigo has officially lifted the lid on her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, with the record set to arrive on June 12.
The singer shared the news on Instagram, posting the album’s artwork — which shows her hanging upside down in a pink tea dress.
She penned: “my third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out June 12th. I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it. available for preorder now! (sic)”
The new project follows 2023’s chart‑topping Guts, and much of it was shaped during her time in the UK. Olivia, who previously dated actor Louis Partridge, spent long stretches in London while writing, and says the city’s atmosphere seeped into the music, giving several tracks what she calls “London vibes”.
The 23‑year‑old has reunited with longtime collaborator Dan Nigro for the album, though she admits she’s still putting the finishing touches on the tracklist.
What she has confirmed is the emotional direction — the record leans heavily into heartbreak and longing.
Speaking to British Vogue, she explained: “I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
One of the new tracks explores her own idea of what falling in love feels like. Olivia described the song’s theme, saying: “You’re getting to the core of all of your issues: how you feel about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you joyful. It feels like the most raw form of you, which is so scary and terrifying and uncomfortable, sometimes, but beautiful at times.”
Rumours of new music began swirling after fans in both Los Angeles and London spotted a mysterious wall installation featuring her initials. The LA version even shifted between shades of pink and purple, sending the internet into full meltdown mode.
