Liam Payne’s legacy continues to shine through a powerful act of generosity. Nearly a year after the tragic passing of the One Direction star, his family and close friends have raised an extraordinary £250,000 to support the creation of a new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The fundraising effort began at Liam’s emotional funeral in November 2024, where mourners were invited to donate in his honour. What started as a heartfelt tribute quickly grew into a major charitable initiative, with fans, loved ones, and celebrities contributing to the cause. The funds will help build a cutting-edge unit dedicated to pioneering research, advanced treatments, and compassionate care for children battling cancer.

A spokesperson for the hospital expressed deep gratitude in a statement issued to The Sun: “We’re so touched by the generosity shown towards GOSH in Liam’s memory. Every donation is helping us take another step towards a world-leading children’s cancer centre—a place of hope which will help build the future of children’s cancer care and save more lives.”

The order of service at Liam’s funeral included a message of thanks, stating: “Your donation today will continue Liam’s legacy by helping to build a brand new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This incredible new building will help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer.”

Liam, who died at age 31 following a tragic fall in Buenos Aires, was known not only for his music but also for his love of children - and was a father himself to son Bear, whom he had with ex Cheryl Tweedy.

The fundraiser has drawn support from across the entertainment world. Attendees at Liam’s funeral included Simon Cowell, James Corden, Cheryl Tweedy, and his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, marking their first public reunion since One Direction’s final concert in 2015.
