Britney Spears has been arrested in Ventura County, California, for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI).

The 44-year-old pop superstar singer was stopped by California Highway Patrol in Ventura County at around 9.30pm on Wednesday evening (04.03.26) and booked at 3am on Thursday (05.03.26), as reported by TMZ.

However, Ventura County Sheriff's inmate records - which listed Britney's occupation as a "celebrity" - show she has already been released and, according to The US Sun, she must appear in court on 4 May.

Britney's arrest comes just hours after it was revealed she has been granted a permanent restraining order against a man who showed up at her Los Angeles home, having made numerous "disturbing social media posts" about the Toxic hitmaker.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, a 51-year-old Louisiana man named Donald - who had been arrested for trespassing at her home in 2025 - was spotted by Britney's security guard, who called the sheriff's department.

Deputies found the man smoking cigarettes and shaking, and he was taken into custody.

The petition noted Donald - who Britney alleged had been harassing her online since 2013 - had “exhibited odd behavior and made several incoherent comments” during his arrest.

Britney's team said his posts were "largely incoherent, [but] several could be interpreted as threatening to harm” the singer, who has no prior relationship or knowledge of him.

The documents alleged Donald has a “long and concerning criminal history,” including convictions for criminal trespass and aggravated assault in 2019. They also claimed he had been charged with burglary and harassment, and faced accusations in court over cyberstalking and DUI.

The court ordered Donald to stay 100 yards away from Britney at all times and the order will stay in place until 2030.

Back in 2007, Britney faced four misdemeanour charges and a possible jail sentence for an alleged hit-and-run incident involving a parked car in Los Angeles.

However, the charges relating to the collision were eventually dropped after she paid damages to the vehicle owner, and a jury acquitted her of a final charge of driving without a California license.

Shortly after that incident, Britney lost custody of her sons Preston, now 20, and Jayden, now 19, to their father Kevin Federline, and was placed under her controversial conservatorship, which finally came to an end in November 2021.

Also in 2007, Britney infamously shaved off all of her hair at a Tarzana salon.

The shocking moment coincided with her very public divorce from her second husband Federline and bouts of postpartum depression.

The incident led to welfare checks and psychiatric holds in early 2008 that laid the groundwork for her family placing her under a controversial conservatorship in California that year, with her father Jamie Spears and a lawyer controlling her finances and numerous aspects of her life.

Revealing what her motivation was for shaving her head in her memoir The Woman In Me, Britney said: "I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body, since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back."
