A fan who proposed to Katy Perry live on stage knew it was a "risky move" to get down on one knee for the singer.

The 40-year-old pop star was performing her Lifetimes show at London's The O2 arena on Monday (13.10.25) when she invited Darren Trenchard onto the stage and he asked her to be his wife.

Darren has now reflected on the move and while he was "embarrassed and nervous", he praised the Firework hitmaker for being "lovely" to him.

He told Daily Mail: "On the day, I drew a big sign and folded it up in my pocket. I had no idea I'd be brought up on stage. When the spotlight came up, I ran to get to the stage on the off chance I make it to get a chance to go up.

"It was a bit of a risky move, but I thought I'd go down on one knee. I felt a bit embarrassed and nervous when I was up there, but she was lovely and we even had a little chat off the microphone.

"It was a great performance. She looked glamorous and great, and this made our night! Everyone's talking about it."

The divorced engineer had attended the concert with his three daughters, Bethany, 16, Nicole, 22, and Sophie, also, 22, and he admitted he'd "always" told them he would make Katy his wife one day.

He said: "They bought me tickets as I was a big fan! I always joked that I was going to make Katy Perry my wife while they were growing up.

"They got me on a dating app recently, and I joked I'll ask Katy Perry out."

Sadly for Darren, Katy - who has four-year-old daughter Daisy with ex-fiance Orlando Bloom and was previously married to Russell Brand - turned down his proposal amid speculation she is dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

She laughed "I wish you'd asked me 48 hours ago.

"London, England, you're like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?

"No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore."
