Three big films hit cinemas this weekend in the UK (one of them opens next week in America), with a fantasy blockbuster taking on a sci-fi action thriller and a Wild West comedy for box office glory. Angelina Jolie's Maleficent is likely to emerge triumphant, thanks to high expectations. But Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow is getting much more positive reviews. To mark the launch of Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise and his costar Emily Blunt held an unprecedented triple premiere on two continents in one day. They started Wednesday morning at 9am with the massive world premiere in central London, where the film is set, then dashed across to Paris for a second premiere a few hours later at the location of the film's climactic battle. The big news this morning has to be the Mtv Movie Awards. Since it’s so far out of awards season and generally awards the biggest movies of the year, the awards are a good way to see where the wind is blowing, for this summer, in terms of blockbusters. So here is your much needed rundown. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire won Movie of the Year (is anyone really surprised) and still mostly rules the young adult and sci-fi scenes, with new hopeful Divergent. With Conan O’Brien hosting, Hunger Games leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson snapped up Best Female Performance and Best Male Performance, respectively, E! News reports. Meanwhile, the red carpet was just as eventful.

America's favorite Young Hollywood leads are yet to be dethroned.

Parks & Rec’s Chris Pratt, who is set to have one epic summer with Guardians of the Galaxy, stopped for some red carpet interviews and said he and wife Anna Faris are working on developing Vacation Friends, a comedy recently bought by Fox. "It will be a chance for us to work together again," he said. "It's in the preliminary stages,” Pratt told USA Today.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire press conference was perhaps the biggest event to hit Comic-Con over the weekend, with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz and Jena Malone turning out to present a brand new trailer for more than 6,000 fans.

Lawrence, who scooped the Oscar for Best Actress in February, is fast becoming one of Hollywood's most amiable stars. Her youth and slouchy attitude to fame allows her to connect perfectly with the franchise's audience and she brought her A-game to California. 

When discussing training for the stunts she performs in the movie, Lawrence quipped that "the hardest stunt is probably still just basic running," to laughter in the hall.

When it comes to ongoing movie franchise, it really doesn't get much bigger than The Hunger Games, so when we managed to get hold of the film's star Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson you can bet that we were all ears. In their frank, individual discussions, the two praised the level of commitment the franchise's fans constantly show them and how arriving at the San Diego Comic Con International really puts into perspective the huge scope the films cover.

Lawrence praises The Hunger Games' "hardcore" fans during the red carpet interview about her the next film in the series; The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. She particularly acknowledged the dedication the fans hold towards the film - a type of dedication that is rarely matched across fandoms associated to other movie/book franchises. She seemed genuinely humbled with the reception the films continue to receive and was keen to acknowledge that without these fans, the films wouldn't be a success.

Jennifer Lawrence was greeted by wild screams as she and cast mates took to the Comic-Con stage to tell fans about their new movie; the sequel to 2012's The Hunger Games that saw her character Katniss Everdeen compete in and jointly win a televised battle top the death in post-apocalyptic nation, 'Panem.' Speaking about her character Everdeen's evolution from the first film, Lawrence explained, "She's struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder after the games while living in Victor's Village, where she never wants for food, and feels useless. She's adapting to a new life."

Despite the dark tone of Suzanne Collins' novels and adapted movies, the mood was jovial amongst The Hunger Games Comic-Con panel, as the stars bantered with each other and exchanged funny stories from filming. "The kissing scenes are going to be really hot, if you're into snot," laughed Lawrence, as she described how a resuscitation scene between her and co-star Josh Hutcherson got sticky: "There was all this snot coming out of my nose and when I had to kiss Josh it went in his mouth and then I coughed and I wobbled it," as reported by The Guardian.

The Hunger Games Comic-Con 2013 panel was a huge success. Six of the upcoming sequel Catching Fire's actors sat on the panel. These included: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen); Josh Hutcherson (Peeta); Jeffrey Wright (Beetee); Lenny Kravitz (Cinna) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale).

Lawrence impressed fans with her anecdotes of clumsiness and her gentle humour. She commented on the difficulties she faced whilst filming physical scenes, stating "running and trying not to hit myself in the face with my bow, those were my two greatest challenges." She also referenced one scene in which she wears -in a propaganda photograph shoot- a vast wedding dress: five feet in diameter. Of the costume she said it "was one of the hardest things I've done in my life".

British chef Jamie Oliver has announced he's finished his first book: Suzanne Collins' Catching Fire. The chef, who has written over twenty cookery books, has never previously completed an entire book before. He said in an interview his dyslexia has always prevented him from finishing a book.

Oliver has not gone down the traditional route of reading the trilogy of books in order. That would be far too conventional but has instead started with the second of the three. We'd like to presume the cook had listened to the first novel or at least seen the film to get the general gist.

Katniss Is Enemy No.1 In Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The first full trailer for the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire has been released, debuting at the MTV Movie awards on Sunday (April 14, 2013). Recent Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence once again takes center stage as Katniss Everdeen, the winner of the brutal fight to the death who appears to have become a sign of hope for the rest of society.

The shadowy Capitol is less than pleased with the fanfare surrounding Katniss' return from the Hunger Games arena and want her removed. "She has become a beacon of hope for them, she has to be eliminated," says Donald Sutherland's President Snow, before Philip Seymour Hoffman's Plutarch Heavensbee adds, "I agree she should die, but in the right way, at the right time. Katniss Everdeen is a symbol, just her image. Show them she is one of us now, let them rally behind that."

The Aloha state may be traditionally known for its warm climes, but The Hunger Games 2 shooting there looked decidedly chilly, with Jennifer Lawrence in particular looking less than comfortable as she surfed in the Hawaiian seas as the cameras rolled.

Filming for the sequel to the hugely successful Hunger Games - $686.5 million taken worldwide – took place on Monday, with the film being given the title The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. However, 22 year-old Lawrence looked like she’d relish the chance of, if not a slight burning, then certainly something to warm her up as she shivered in a wetsuit, paired with knee pads and some black Adidas high-top sneakers. One particular shot, caught by the Daily Mail, saw her have to dive off a jetty into the sea. Alongside her on set was the 20 year-old actor Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta Mellark in the film. Joining the pair was fellow star Liam Hemsworth, who was also snapped braving the waters.

There wasn’t too much combat stuff going on, though there were a couple of images of Lawrence holding a crossbow, and we’re pretty sure her character was planning on using it to do more than clean someone’s ears out. The film is expected to come out in 2013.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire may not be getting released in cinemas for at least another year, but that doesn't mean that fans of the franchise aren't eagerly awaiting every forward motion the films take, as the reaction to the unveiling of the poster for the next film in the series has shown.

The artwork for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire gives very little away, with only a flaming version of the Mockingjay pin that appears so frequently throughout the series being on display. Still, that hasn't stopped people from trying to decipher whether it may give anything that will reveal what we can expect from the new film. Of course, for the people who have read the book, there will be no need to do this as they should have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen.

The sequel to the hugely successful Hunger Games once again stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, alongside Hollywood stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. New cast members include the Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee and Jena Malone as Johanna Mason. It hits cinemas worldwide on November 22, 2012.

Francis Lawrence, the man behind the camera for theHunger Games sequel Catching Fire,has signed on the direct the next two films in the series – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2.

Lawrence, whose previous credits include Water For Elephants and I Am Legend, is currently at work on the second film in the series,which is set to be released in cinemas in a years time.

The news that Lawrence has signed on to film the remainder of the franchise came yesterday when movie site Collider broke the exclusive. He will follow fellow mainstays Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson now, who star as the main characters Katniss Everdeen, Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark respectively.
