Anne Hathaway's Blonde Look 'Inspired By Debbie Harry' (Photos)

Anne Hathaway Debbie Harry

Anne Hathaway showed off her latest look at last night's (May 6) Mets Ball in New York, unveiling her new platinum blonde locks for the first time at the alternative gathering. Speaking to Variety on the red carpet, the Oscar-winner said that she was inspired by Blondie rocker Debbie Harry, who was at the gala, for her new look.

Speaking to Variety, she described her new look as "the most punk" thing she's ever done, more than living up to the night's theme of Punk: Chaos to Couture. The Dark Knight Rises star completed the look with a black Valentino gown and added about her costume, "I don't know that you could tell it by looking at me, but Debbie Harry was (my inspiration)."

Hairspray (1988) Review

Good
Some 34 years after the Supreme Court ended segregation, John Waters made Hairspray, probably his most wholesome film ever (it's rated PG), to relive his Baltimore youth among the regulars of his local American Bandstand-esque dance show. Hairspray's The Corny Collins Show was indeed based on a real Baltimore show called The Buddy Deane Show, and Waters' skewering of the young Elvises and their high-hair girls is dead-on.

Set in 1963, Baltimore was still fighting integration by refusing to let black youths participate in shows like these. The minority finds an unlikely champion, though, in Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) an enormous girl who only wants to dance! As the pretty kids push against the rising popularity of the fat girl, a convenient analogue to racial discrimination develops.

Videodrome Review

Excellent
"It's just murder and torture. No plot. No characters."

That's James Woods describing Videodrome, the pirate TV show his programming exec Max discovers being broadcast, ostensibly from Malaysia. The show features people -- mostly naked women -- being electrocuted, beaten, and eventually killed. That's the show. Woods's Max becomes obsessed with the show, which he quickly discovers is real -- not make-believe. And it's not Malaysian, it's from Pittsburgh. And there's something underneath the regular track... something sinister that ultimately reveals a dark conspiracy.

Six Ways To Sunday Review

Excellent
"A boy's best friend is his mother." Norman Bates is better known for echoing this sentiment, but Norman Reedus's Harry Odum is the one who gets to live it. Perfectly cast as the son of Debbie Harry's overpowering and controlling mother, Harry discovers a faculty for abuse and killing that leads him to join the local mob as a hitman. His escapades go from bizarre to down right hysterical, notably involving Elina Löwensohn as a mob boss's maid with whom he falls in love. Based on the book Portrait of a Young Man Drowning.

Rock & Rule Review

Excellent
I think we can now safely say that the hand-drawn animated film is dead in America.

Finito.
