Taylor Swift has been hit with a new legal battle after entertainer and writer Maren Wade filed a lawsuit accusing the pop superstar of infringing on her trademark with the title of Swift’s 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl.

The complaint, lodged on Monday (30.03.26), names both Swift and UMG Recordings and alleges trademark infringement, false designation and unfair competition.

Wade, 36, argues that Swift’s use of the phrase “Life of a Showgirl” conflicts with her own brand, which she has been developing for more than a decade.

She is seeking unspecified damages and a court order preventing Swift from continuing to use the title.

Her attorney, Jaymie Parkinnen, said in a statement: “A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn’t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along.”

Wade first launched Confessions of a Showgirl as a column for Las Vegas Weekly in 2014, drawing on her experiences as a performer.

The brand has since expanded into a podcast and a live show, and her trademark covers a wide range of entertainment formats, including stage productions and television.

According to the lawsuit, Swift’s team attempted to register the album title with the US Patent and Trademark Office, but the application was rejected due to its similarity to Wade’s existing mark.

The filing argues that both titles share the distinctive phrase “of a Showgirl” and operate within the same entertainment space, creating a likelihood of confusion among audiences.

The complaint also claims that Swift’s high‑profile release has overshadowed Wade’s work, leading some consumers to believe Wade copied the singer rather than the other way around.

It states that the alleged “erosion” of Wade’s trademark threatens the future of her entire brand.

Swift has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
