Pink Floyd icon David Gilmour hints at new album and Las Vegas Sphere residency
Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour reveals he’s working on new material and is open to a potential Las Vegas Sphere residency.

Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour has revealed he’s working on new material and is open to the possibility of a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere.
The 79-year-old musician shows no signs of slowing down despite his age, who is known for his role in the Another Brick in the Wall rockers alongside bassist Roger Waters, 81, drummer Nick Mason, 81, and late members frontman Syd Barrett (who died aged 60 in 2006) and keyboardist Richard Wright (who died aged 65 in 2008) - revealed he’s currently developing new songs and hinted that fans might not have to wait long for his next album.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said: “I’m slowly building up towards a new album, and I have quite a bit of material that is in some sort of formative stage. That’s what’s keeping me busy at the moment.”
The Wish You Were Here hitmaker also described how his creative process has evolved, with much of the initial work now done solo and digitally.
He said: “At the moment that I start recording, I do it pretty much all myself and I work on Pro Tools.
“I don’t play the drums all that well, and I do that with machinery in the modern tradition. And I put things together so that I can fiddle around for months, adding little bits, taking things away till I think that I’ve got something close to where I want it.
“I then can take it into a studio with a bunch of people and know exactly what I want to do and how I want to get it done and present it to these people for their input.”
Despite his busy studio schedule, Gilmour has no plans to embark on a long tour, having completed 23 shows last year across London, Rome, New York, and Los Angeles in support of his 2024 album Luck and Strange.
He added: “Well, I did London, Rome, New York, and LA.
“I did a week in each place. Quite a lot of people. I think at this point of my life in the business, I can be a bit more demanding about people coming to me rather than me going to them. And I didn’t want to do a big long tour. Being out on the road as they call it for months on end is something that’s in my past.”
When asked about the possibility of a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, Gilmour was open but cautious about following in the footsteps of U2 and The Eagles by performing at the venue in Sin City.
Gilmour said: “Well, to be honest, I really know almost nothing about what it does. But they have been on and suggested that I might do something there. But in the future, who knows. I haven’t got that far. It will be in there amongst the plans that we are to think about.”
