Alice Cooper announces autobiography Devil on my Shoulder and UK speaking tour
Alice Cooper has put pen to paper on the tell-all Devil on my Shoulder.
Alice Cooper has announced the release of his long‑awaited autobiography, Devil on my Shoulder, arriving October 8, alongside an intimate eight‑date UK speaking tour.
The book promises to finally unravel one of rock’s most enduring dual identities: the theatrical, blood‑soaked villain who shocked audiences for decades, and the man behind the makeup — Vincent Damon Furnier — a sober pastor’s son who has been married for 50 years.
Cooper says the two personas became dangerously intertwined across years of touring, excess and rock‑and‑roll chaos.
He said: “Alice is still on tour around the world today, a proper senile delinquent playing hundreds of gigs every year, while I myself am reformed.
“With the benefit of hindsight and a certain maturity, I’d like to describe our journey to Hell and back together, because it’s not only rock stars who can lose their way.”
Cooper reflects on how the character eventually consumed him, explaining: “I was born Vincent Damon Furnier but, seduced by my character’s reputation, changed my name legally to Alice Cooper, and in the process lost sight of who I really was. The mild‑mannered, all‑American boy I’d once been became a monster and a mortal danger to himself.”
Across six decades, Cooper’s life has intersected with cultural icons including Salvador Dalí, John Lennon, Groucho Marx, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol and Tiger Woods. The book blends outrageous rock folklore with candid reflections on addiction, identity, fame and survival — told, as he puts it, with “an angel on one shoulder, devil on the other.”
He added: “Me and Alice were getting creative with the truth long before the Age of Fake News.
“Now, after over thirty records and sixty‑plus years of fibs and fabrications, I think it’s time to sort the truth from the rumors and lies.”
Cooper will support the release with a UK tour featuring on‑stage conversations and audience Q+As, offering fans a rare look behind the guillotines, snakes and shock‑rock spectacle.
