Former All Saints star Nicole Appleton has revealed she gets "on really well" with her ex-husband Liam Gallagher 12 years after their divorce.
Nicole Appleton gets "on really well" with her ex-husband Liam Gallagher.
The All Saints singer married the Oasis rocker - the father of her 24-year-old son Gene - in 2008 but the marriage crumbled after the rocker was accused of being unfaithful and fathered a daughter named Gemma with American journalist Liza Ghorbani, but Nicole is adamant they have put the past behind them and they are now on good terms.
During an appearance on Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Spinning Plates podcast, Nicole said: "For a while now we all get on really well, Gene gets on well with his Dad, it’s the best."
However, Nicole admitted the former couple's split was tough on Gene, who was just 12 years old when his parents parted ways and they ended up sharing a bed and watching TV together.
She explained: "When Liam and I separated Gene was 12. He slept next to me. Him and I would sit next to each other and watch Family Guy every night, religiously. It was our thing, we’d both sleep watching Family Guy.
"He loved Family Guy, so it was like okay we’ll watch Family Guy. I think he felt like my protector.“It was also very challenging because he was nearly a teenager, and I was really nervous about it.
"Like that Kevin and Perry thing where they come downstairs and they changed and I didn’t know if I could handle that.
"But he did it really well, he had moments. But he was always quite supportive. I think that during that period we just had each other’s backs, without really talking about it.
"We just were there for each other. I don’t remember that fine line where he suddenly went back to his room because we were both so okay that it wasn’t a moment where I felt like he’d gone back to his room.
"I loved those nights as well, we’d just get into bed and watch Family Guy. He just made everything okay in his way."
Nicole has since remarried - tying the knot with Meta executive Stephen Haines in 2021 - and they have a six-year-old daughter Skipper together while Gene is now following in his dad's musical footsteps by fronting a band called Villanelle.
However, the singer is adamant her son is still "her baby" even though he's all grown-up.
She added: "He’s the sweetest boy. He’s 24 but he’s still my baby. I love him, like I could squeeze his guts with love. It’s that sort of thing.
"I’m so proud of him and he makes me laugh, he makes us all laugh. His relationship with Skipper is just adorable. He might be 24 and she’s six but he’ll become six for her. They have the best time.
"It's so sweet when he has an opinion because it means more to me than anybody else’s. I trust it more than anything ... I’m not allowed to get involved in his stuff, at all.
"He does his own music and he won’t play it to me. I hear it when it’s ready to go. He just gets worried that I might have my opinions or I might get stressed about it. So it’s nice when he suddenly says something."
