Noel Gallagher salutes brother Liam as he accepts Songwriter of the Year at the BRITs
Noel Gallagher thanked brother Liam Gallagher and his Oasis bandmates after winning the Songwriter of the Year gong at the BRIT Awards in Manchester.
Noel Gallagher used his moment in the spotlight at the BRIT Awards in Manchester to publicly praise his brother Liam and their Oasis bandmates, marking another high‑profile nod to the group’s blockbuster reunion.
The Britpop legend - who reunited with Liam in 2025 for their first tour together in 16 years, finally drawing a line under their long‑running feud - collected the Songwriter of the Year award on Saturday (28.02.26) and opened his speech by crediting the people who shaped his career.
Introduced by Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Noel told the crowd: “Yes, Manchester! I’ve got to thank my brother. And Bonehead, Guigsy, Andy and Gem. Without them I’d just be a singer‑songwriter — and nobody gives a s*** about singer‑songwriters.”
Earlier in the night, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had taken the stage to present him, prompting Noel to fire up the Co‑op Live Arena with a cheeky rallying cry for his beloved club: “Up the f****** blues.”
His win sparked debate, given that he hasn’t released new material in two years — something Noel himself has been quick to joke about.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he admitted he was surprised to qualify for the honour, saying: “I haven’t written a song for two years. I’m not sure how I’ve got away with that one, but I’ll take it.”
He argued that the award likely reflects Oasis’ massive sales over the past year, adding that the band shifted a million records without him “getting off the couch”.
Ever ready for a scrap, he teased that anyone unhappy with the decision could “have it out on the red carpet”.
Noel also revealed he has been working on new music, but suspects the BRITs simply wanted an Oasis representative onstage for their first-ever ceremony in Manchester.
He quipped: “I’m in the studio now, so I’d better put something out soon. If I’m honest, I think they were just desperate to get someone from Oasis up there because it’s in Manchester.”
