Public Enemy's Chuck D and The Doors' John Densmore form new duo, DoPE
Chuck D and John Densmore have recorded an album together as DoPE.
Public Enemy’s Chuck D and The Doors’ John Densmore have formed the new duo, doPE.
The hip-hop legend and the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - who is best known as the sticksman for the iconic '60s rock band - came together after bonding at a 2014 Record Story Day panel in 2014, with the former reaching out to Densmore via email to ask if he was up for collaborating.
The pair will release their debut album, no country no old men, on April 18, which just so happens to be Record Store Day, in a full-circle moment.
Unveiling the project on Instagram, they announced: "Public Enemy’s Chuck D and The Doors’ John Densmore team up as doPE.
"The two first crossed paths on a Record Store Day panel in 2014. About a year later, John received an email from Chuck that simply read: “You’ve got the beats, I’ve got the rhymes, let’s make doPE.”
"Their debut album, no country for old men, arrives April 18 for Record Store Day and features “every tick tick tick,” officially named Record Store Day’s 2026 Song of the Year.
"Stay tuned for more updates."
