The Flaming Lips' Steven Drozd appeared to confirm he is no longer in the band.

The multi-instrumentalist has been absent from the Wayne Coyne-fronted group's live shows, with AJ Slaughter stepping in to play guitar, keyboards, and pedal steel.

And, when quizzed on Threads if he's “officially done with the FLips,” he replied in a since-deleted post: “They’re done with me – but we’re not talking about it. So yes I’m moving on. Just keep it to yourself for now. OK?”

Drozd had been a member of the Grammy-winning psychedelic rock band since 1991, initially joining as their drummer.

In 1999, while touring The Soft Bulletin, Drozd took on guitar duties as well as bass, keyboards and backing vocals, using his drum tracks during live performances, but he still drummed on their studio albums.

Drozd and Coyne also formed the side project Electric Würms, with the former as frontman.

Meanwhile, Wayne previously admitted that making records "saved" him and his bandmates.

He said: "People forget: it is about making records. It’s easy to think it’s about rock stars and all this sort of stuff, but it really is about making albums. What we really, really love to do is to make albums and write songs.

"If you don’t like doing that, eventually you’re going to be stuck, because someone’s going to have to make the records for you, or write the songs for you. That’s probably the thing in the end that saved us."
