Green Day have performed their track Haushinka live for the first time in 28 years.

The punk rock trio - made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool - surprised fans in Santiago, Chile on Saturday (30.8.25) night by including the rarely-heard track - which featured on the 1997 album Nimrod - during their set at Parque Estadio Nacional on The Saviors Tour.

Introducing the song, Billie Joe told the crowd: “I think that’s the first time we do it since 1993, maybe. And we do it because Santiago is special to us.”

It turned out that it was the first time that Green Day had performed the song since a gig in Boise, Idaho back in 1997.

Sharing a clip of the performance on Instagram, the California rockers wrote: “From Berkeley to Santiago… Haushinka lives!!! First time playing this one since ’97. Thank YOU Chile.”

Haushinka was never released as a single but has become a cult favourite among longtime fans. It’s a rare addition to Green Day’s usual Nimrod-era setlist, which typically includes just two tracks: Hitchin' a Ride - often featuring a riff from Black Sabbath’s Iron Man - and the smash hit Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).

The show forms part of Green Day’s Saviors Tour, which has taken the band around the globe over the past year. The South American leg continues with stops in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires (Sept 3), Brazilian cities Sao Paulo (Sept 7) and Curitiba (Sept 12) and Paraguayan capital Asuncion (Sept 15).

They’ll wrap up the tour in the US later this month, with festival dates followed by a final show at Yaamava’ Theatre in San Bernardino, California on September 30.

The band previously marked Nimrod’s 25th anniversary in 2022 by releasing demos and unreleased tracks - including You Irritate Me, Tre Polka, and a cover of Elvis Costello’s Alison.
