Bat biting - rock’s most infamous bite

Without doubt Ozzy’s most infamous moment was when he bit the head off a live bat whilst performing at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa, in January 1982.

The animal had been thrown on stage by a fan and believing it to be a rubber toy, Ozzy bit the head off, but soon realised he had made a big mistake when he felt the creature's blood in his mouth.

He rushed for urgent rabies shots after feeling the bat "twitch" in his mouth.

He said: “Immediately, though, something felt wrong. Very wrong. For a start, my mouth was instantly full of this warm, gloopy liquid, with the worst aftertaste you could ever imagine. I could feel it staining my teeth and running down my chin. Then the head in my mouth twitched."

In 2019, Ozzy released a 12-inch bat plush toy with a detachable head to mark the 37th anniversary of the infamous moment available to purchase from his online Ozzy Osbourne store.
