Martin Scorsese Urging Uruguayan Officials To Support Film Industry
Director Martin Scorsese, Argentinian Actress Mercedes Moran And Spanish Filmmaker Javier Rebollo Have Appealed To Government Officials In Uruguay To Take Action To Save Their National Film Archive Amid A Financial Crisis.
The stars, in addition to Uruguayan singer Jorge Drexler, have each recorded video messages for LALA, an online platform for Latin American film collaborations, calling for continued support for the Uruguayan Film Library to prevent the 63-year-old organisation, which preserves around 20,000 movies, from shutting down.
In Scorsese's video, he says, "A society that supports your film is a wise society. That's why I want to send this message to the Government and people of Uruguay."
