Jesy Nelson admits co-parenting with her ex-finace is tough

Jessy Nelson admits co-parenting with her ex-fiancé Zion Foster has been "really tough" due to their split and the health challenges of their twin daughters.

The former Little Mix star recently ended her four-year relationship with Zion just four months after they got engaged.

This spilt followed not long after Jesy announced in January that their twin daughters, Ocean and Story, had been diagnosed with SMA Type 1 - also known as Spinal muscular atrophy - a rare genetic condition which causes muscle weakness.

The strain of the traumatic experience forced the couple to part ways and shift their priorities on co-parenting.

Jesy opens up about the challenges of co-parenting her twins in her upcoming six-part Prime Video docuseries, Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix

The series follows the former Little Mix singer as she navigates motherhood, including the medical complications of a high-risk pregnancy and the care of her daughters.

Speaking during a Q+A session with executive producer Demi Doyle at an exclusive screening event of upcoming six-part docuseries Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, held at The Cinema at Selfridges in London, Jesy said of co-parenting: "We're doing good. It's been tough, I'm not going to bulls*** - it is really tough. I think that's understandable with everything that we've gone through. But we're getting on with it, and our girls are our focus. They're happy, nd they're doing really well, and that's what we can ask for as their parents.”

The screening included the first episode of the series, and Jesy revealed why she wanted to share the documentary now.

She said: "This is the best time to do it, because how amazing that I have all of these memories to show my girls when they get older. I just think the universe is just wild, because the minute I let the cameras in, within two days of filming, I was rushed into hospital to have an emergency operation. You just couldn't write it.”

During the Q+A, Nelson reflected on the personal impact of sharing her journey on camera.

She said: “It's always hard, because I think a lot of people would maybe choose to not share this. But for me, when you go through something like this in your life, it puts everything into perspective. The s*** I used to care about and worry about just seems so insignificant to me now. It's so important to me for everyone to see this.

"I just really hope that when people watch it, if they're going through anything similar, you can just watch it, and think it doesn't matter what you're going through, you have to know that there's always light at the end of the tunnel. It will get better.”

The docuseries also explores Nelson’s decision to leave Little Mix in 2020. The group originally formed on The X Factor in 2011 under the guidance of then-judge N-Dubz star Tulisa and boss Simon Cowell, who brought Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jess Nelson toge her as a four-piece.

Jesy, 34, said: "I go into the reason why I left Little Mix, which I've never, ever spoken about, and that was really tough, because, like I said, there's been a constant narrative that's been written about me - I believe it gave a false narrative of why I left. This was my turn to say this is my truth, and this is why I left. But I also just really hope that it gets put to bed after this, because I feel like I've been carrying that weight for a really long time.”

All six episodes will be available exclusively on Prime Video from Friday 13 February 2026.
