The Rolling Stones have scrapped their plans to tour the UK and Europe next year.

An American music journalist claimed that soon-to-be 82-year-old guitarist Keith Richards was unable to "commit" to a lengthy jaunt in 2026.

According to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column, they said: “The Rolling Stones had all the big promoters throwing loads of ideas and dates at them for next summer.

“But when they properly sat down to discuss the tour, Keith said he didn’t think he could commit and wasn’t keen on a big stadium tour for over four months.”

NME also received confirmation from a represntative for the Stones that the report was true.

Sir Mick Jagger's band had already postponed their tour plans for this year.

A spokesperson for the band had said:  “The band were looking to tour earlier this year but couldn’t make it work either. It’s hard for their fans but The Stones will get back onstage when they’re good and ready.”

This comes despite hints from bassist and guitarist Ronnie Wood that the Gimme Shelter band were hoping to play some dates.

Speaking at the legendary group's RS No9 shop in Carnaby Street this year, he teased: “Yes we are hoping to do some dates. Hopefully we will be back out there but I am still waiting to find out myself.”

The 78-year-old rocker also confirmed that the follow-up to 2023's Hackney Diamonds - which saw them reunite with producer Andrew Watt - is ready to rock 'n' roll.

As quoted by Bizarre, Wood promised: “Yes you will be getting a new album next year. It is done.”

It would have marked their first trek since their Hackney Diamonds run across North America in 2024.
