Charli xcx eyes third UK No.1 album with Wuthering Heights soundtrack
Charli xcx could be number one in the UK with her Wuthering Heights album.
Charli xcx is on track to score her third UK No.1 album in just four years, as her new project Wuthering Heights races ahead in this week’s chart battle.
The record — the original soundtrack to Emerald Fennell’s new film adaptation of the English literary classic — is currently leading the midweek charts with 9,651 sales. Physical formats are driving the campaign in a big way, accounting for 6,763 of those units, while downloads contribute 287 and streaming adds another 2,601.
If the momentum holds, Charli will add Wuthering Heights to a growing list of chart‑toppers, following 2022’s Crash and 2024’s critically acclaimed Brat.
Hot on her heels is Olivia Dean, whose new album The Art of Loving sits at No.2 in the race for Friday’s Official Albums Chart. Dean has enjoyed a strong run over the past year, and her latest release is expected to remain a major contender as the week progresses.
The film stars Margot Robbie as Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, charting their intense, forbidden connection as it spirals from romance into obsession in a sweeping tale of lust, longing and unravelling sanity.
Standout tracks on the album include the singles Chains of Love and House of Love with John Cale of The Velvet Underground.
The 33-year-old pop star recently gushed that it was a "heavenly" experience, while revealing the artists that inspired her.
Speaking to the BBC at the film's UK premiere in London this month, Charli explained: "I always like to work with polar opposites, and so this was honestly a dream project for me.
"When I first started making music, I was so inspired by, you know, so many of the references that Emerald and I were talking about, like Shakespears Sister to The Cure to, obviously, Kate Bush ... So this was, yeah, it was really heavenly to work on this."
Charli is also starring in The Moment, her new mockumentary film about her Brat Tour, and the singer recently opened up about her preparations for the project.
Speaking at a Q+A in Brooklyn, Charli said: "I play — I hope — a slightly different version of my real self in this film. I don't think I'm quite that much of a nightmare the whole time, but I wouldn't really be the best person to ask about that.
"The thing about the Charli in the film is all of the scenarios that my character in the film goes through could have happened if I made slightly different decisions in my own life and in my own career.
"Obviously I assume that most of you here know that this is not what happened when it came to Brat and going on tour and things like that."
