Yungblud has teased that the second instalment of his Idols project will take a darker turn, describing Part 2 as “more cynical” than its predecessor.

The follow‑up — which he says is due “imminently” — features the track I Need You to Make the World Seem Fine, where he delivers the lines: “Pictures of idols rise up and fall / Wish you knew it all / Lift your head from the pillow, you’ve been missing enough / Built yourself a wall.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Yungblud — real name Dominic Harrison — explained that the shift in tone reflects the emotional arc of the project.

He said: “The first part is about self‑reclamation and flying, learning how to get your wings. The next bit is the real realism — how do you live in the real world as this person you’ve discovered? It’s a little bit more cynical.”

The Zombie singer also revealed that the new material marks a sharp stylistic pivot from the maximalist sound of the first half.

He explained: “Idols was extremely maximalist.

“What me and Watt wanna do is extremely minimalist. We really wanna make it sound live, band‑y. We might not even record to a click.”

Harrison added that he’s been drawing inspiration from ’90s icons and stripped‑back performances, noting: “I’ve been listening to [Jeff] Buckley and [Chris] Cornell and [Scott] Weiland, going into this zone of ’93 MTV Unplugged, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana. My favourite thing Bowie said was, ‘I would look at the last album and go completely the opposite way.’ If you’ve got three minutes and five chords and the f****** truth, what are you gonna do?”
