Guns N' Roses have 'so much material' to record
Slash has revealed Guns N' Roses have plenty of tracks for another album ready to record.
Guns N’ Roses have “so much material” to record – but won’t plan recording sessions.
The group haven’t released an album since 2008’s Chinese Democracy, and while guitarist Slash confirmed they have plenty of unreleased tracks for another LP, he admitted past experience has taught the Welcome to the Jungle rockers that things only “fall apart” when they try to organise time in the studio.
He told Classic Rock magazine: “There’s so much material at this point.
“It’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and f****** get into it.
“But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead.
“You can never sit down and go, ‘We’re going to take this time and we’re going to do this.’
“Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart.
“It just happens spontaneously through some sort of inspiration that triggers it.
“And the next thing you know, it’s off and running.
“So it’s coming. I know it’s coming because everybody is thinking about it.
“It’ll just happen when it happens.”
Slash reunited with the band nine years ago, and he’s “blown away” that the group are still playing sell-out stadium gigs.
Asked if he imagined when he’d rejoined that Guns N’Roses would be “packing stadiums”, he said: “No, I didn’t. It’ll be 10 years in March 2026, and I’m tripping that so much time has gone by.
“I’m blown away that we’ve managed to have such a great following this whole time.”
Slash – who quit Guns N’ Roses at their peak in 1996 – never expected his reunion with the Paradise City group to last so long when he rejoined in 2016.
He said: “It sounds crazy, but when I first got involved again, it was just to do a couple of shows, one of which was Coachella.
“We’d been getting these offers to do that event for years, so Axl and I got together, sat down and hashed out a lot of stuff that had built up over the years.
“That’s when he said, ‘We get these offers to do Coachella. Do you want to do it?’ I said, ‘Yeah, that would be fun’…
“We did the Coachella show and then we just kept going. It never really stopped.
“The only thing that stopped it was Covid, because we were just going from tour to tour and having a great time.
“We’re fortunate to be a band who’s material has stood the test of time like that.
“And we’re fortunate to be appreciated this far out.
“To be able to maintain that much interest, you have to consider yourself really f****** lucky, and that’s the way I see it. It’s been quite a ride.”
