Sabrina Carpenter is “so proud” of her new bonus track Such a Funny Way.

The pop provocateur surprised fans on Thursday (04.09.25) night with the digital release of the track - previously exclusive to the vinyl deluxe edition of her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend.

She teased the release on Instagram with a retro-style photo of herself on the phone, looking pensive, writing: “a little surprise for you…Such a Funny Way is a song i am so proud of.

“The sentiment is one i always thought could really be the end of Man’s Best Friend in another universe! i didn’t want you to wait too long to have it and get to know it. it’s available for digital download now.”

The song is now available for digital download - bundled with the entire album - via her official site for $7.99

In a candid chat with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Carpenter revealed the emotional weight behind the track, explaining how humour often acts as a shield in her music.

Sabrina explained how the line, “So funny that I have to laugh just so I don’t cry” , serves as a powerful reflection of using levity to cope.

She said: “I interpret humour, obviously, in a light way, but it’s also used to cover something and it’s used to definitely cope with things and not always in the best way. I’ve had trouble in relationships before because people have been like, ‘Be serious.’

“So much of the time it feels maybe less mean or hurtful or spiteful to be able to just laugh about it, and that’s a good thing sometimes and sometimes it’s a bad thing. So yeah, that one isn’t on the original version of the album, but it ends the album with the lyrics, ‘So funny that I have to laugh just so I don’t cry.'”

The Espresso singer has faced criticism for her provocative Man's Best Friend album cover, which shows Sabrina on her knees while her hair is pulled by an anonymous figure, but she claimed that there is a "lot of nuance" behind her choice of imagery.

Speaking to Interview magazine, she said: "I felt like, 'Why is this taboo?'

"This is something that women experience in such a real way, becoming comfortable with themselves and who they are. There's so many reasons why I called it Man's Best Friend and there's so many layers in the experiences I was going through at the time where, emotionally, I felt like one.

"I'm really, really grateful that there's enough of my audience that really knows me as a person that will be able to hear these songs how they're intended."
