Riggan Thomas (Michael Keeton) is faced with a serious problem. In an attempt to make himself appear relevant in the new world following his role as television superhero Birdman twenty years ago, he has written a stage adaptation of sixty-year-old book. But his problem is, that the actor hired to star in the production has dropped out. The plays producer, Jake (Zach Galifianakis) is in the process of explaining how much trouble they are in, when Lesley (Naomi Watts) explains that her lover, the famous Mike Shiner (Edward Norton) is ready and willing to step into the role.
Riggan meets with Shiner and the two go to get coffee while discussing their own thoughts on the idea of becoming irrelevant. When Shiner is introduced to Sam (Emma Stone), Riggan's daughter, he is forward and overly suggestive towards her - much to her dismay. Riggan is confronted by a number of journalist during an interview who make ridiculous suggestions about how he keeps his looks. Finally, Riggan is confronted by Sam who suggests that no one is going to care about this long awaited comeback. 'Birdman' has so far received glowing reviews from film goers and critics alike.
