Remember when Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter said that Gwyneth Paltrow had ‘forced [his] hand’ and that the magazine would definitely run a tell-all piece on the star? Well, in the end...they didn’t. Gwyneth spent months publicly battling the publication, even turning to her long list of loyal celebrity friends requesting that they didn’t aid the article in any way by answering any of their questions.

Paltrow, who is married to Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, apparently wrote to her celeb mates: "If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again". Pretty harsh words there, Gwyneth. We can’t help but wonder what dirty secrets it was the magazine had on her that she was so desperate to keep quiet. We guess we’ll never know now.  Don’t worry though Gwyneth, we won’t do a Jezebel and offer $10,000 for the info.

All that we do know was that the piece was intended to be an ‘epic takedown’ of the mum of two. We can’t quite understand why they would want to destroy Gwyneth’s good name so much, something a lot deeper and more sinister seems to be at work here than your run-of-the-mill expose.

Although the magazine stood strong for a while, insisting that they would still run the piece despite the furore, in December 2013 it was announced that they would back down. Gwyneth’s apparently frantic phone call to Graydon Carter allegedly swayed the editor, who eventually dropped the piece. Oh, to be a fly on the wall during that phone conversation.

Just when we thought that the whole feud had been laid to rest, Gwyneth was notably absent from the Vanity Fair after-party, an annual event held by the publication after the Academy Awards. The party is packed full of Hollywood’s hottest stars, this year the guest list included Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o, previous Best Actress winner and America’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence, Miranda Kerr, who ran into her ex Orlando Bloom on the red carpet, Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga, who arrived arm in arm and Selena Gomez, who looked extremely elegant in a bronze floor length gown.

More: who was best dressed at the Vanity Fair party?

While we had assumed that Gwyneth may have been prepared to let sleeping dogs lie, her notable absence from the Vanity Fair after-party indicates that the actress is still a bit peeved about the whole 'epic takedown' thing. We’d heard that that the magazine had instead opted to run a ‘softer’ piece on the Shakespeare in Love star, we wonder if that’s still scheduled to run since she boycotted the glamorous do.

Do you think that Gwyneth overreacted by not attending the after-party?  Do you think that the Hollywood star has any ammo left to use in her war against the magazine?
