Right from the start, filmmaker Jason Zada begins filling scenes in this horror movie with insinuating elements involving eerie noises, deep shadows and sudden jolts. And it succeeds in freaking the audience out entertainingly. Then Zada seems to get tired of sustaining the psychological terror, letting the final act become swamped by a flood of gimmicky cliches.
The story centres on Sara (Natalie Dormer), a young woman suffering from unnerving nightmares about her identical twin Jess (also Dormer), who was last seen entering Japan's notorious Aokigahara Forest, the "sea of trees" where people traditionally go to commit suicide. So Sara leaves her husband (Eoin Macken) at home in America and heads to the foot of Mt Fuji to get some answers, ignoring warnings about angry spirits and impending doom. There she meets friendly journalist Aidan (Taylor Kinney), who wants to tag along and write a story about her. But once they enter the forest, their phones and compasses stop working, then even creepier things start happening in the gloomy darkness.
The director gleefully piles on suggestive imagery, hinting at all kinds of things that might be going on here. Sara and Jess are like opposite sides of a coin: blonde and sensible versus brunette and free-spirited. And they have a tragic back-story that reveals itself in a series of dreamy flashbacks. Cleverly, their childhood snapshots make them resemble the sinister twins from The Shining. So Sara's continuous premonitions add layers of uncertainty, especially as she indulges in illicit flirtation with the handsome Aidan. Dormer is solid in the central role, nicely balancing Sara's scepticism with a haunting sense of dread. And Kinney is terrific as the helpful stranger who seems too nice to be trusted. Meanwhile, the forest itself makes the entire film feel like a fairy tale that's threatening to turn seriously nasty at any moment.

Gaga and her actor fiancé appear nude and covered in paint on the magazine’s cover.
Lady GaGa and her fiancé Taylor Kinney have bared all for the cover of V Magazine, sharing an intimate post-sex selfie. Gaga received the honour at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City on Friday.
Lady GaGa has called out the music industry as a "a boys club,” during her acceptance speech at Billboard's Women in Music event. Gaga was collecting the award for 'Woman of the Year' at the event in New York City on Friday, where she acknowledged how hard it still is for women in the music industry.
Lady Gaga was honoured with Billboard’s Woman Of The Year award on Friday.
Accepting the award Gaga said, "What I really want to say is that it is really hard sometimes for women in music. It's like a f---ing boys club that we just can't get in to,” which caused the room to break out in applause.
'Chicago Fire' stars Eamonn Walker and Taylor Kinney led arrivals at the 2015 NBC Upfront Presentation held at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The series began in 2012 and follows a group of firefighters in their day to day life.
Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann were strikingly dressed as they arrived outside the New York screening for their girl power comedy 'The Other Woman' in which they star as three women who are unwittingly dating the same cheating boyfriend.
Lady Gaga spoke to a number of media outlets last week and discussed aspects of her life she had previously kept to herself. The 'Artpop' singer commented on her future family hopes, her latest food obsession, her body image and sex life.
Lady GaGa is not well known for her warm or homely attitude. In fact, before now few people have rarely heard her discuss her personal life or how she chooses to relax. Yet beyond the elaborate costumes - the parasols, the clam bikini, the creepy glasses, to name just a few - a pizza lover and family orientated person resides.

Lady Gaga and her manager, Troy Carter, may well be heading their separate ways. Meanwhile, despite reports of a split, Gaga and Taylor Kinney appear very much together.
Lady Gaga appeared at the YouTube Music Awards on Sunday (3rd November).
Sources, speaking to Us Weekly, claim the 'Born This Way' singer may well be parting from her long term manager Carter. One source claimed the two had different visions of Gaga's future and music. This source said "It's sad but also liberating at the same time. One door closes and another opens." Although the two have worked closely for over six years, it seems they are splitting because of "creative differences", if sources are to be believed.
For once she was a bridesmaid and not the main attraction.
We’re used to seeing Lady GaGa in eccentric clothing, or almost nude or wearing a meat dress or at least some startling head piece. Her latest fashion statement has been even more surprising – she wasn’t making one. Gaga attended a friend’s wedding – as a bridesmaid no less – looking surprisingly normal in a pale pink gown along with the other bridesmaids and with a matching flower tucked between her flowing blonde locks.
The Twobirds Bridesmaid creation reportedly set the singer back just $388 or £250, according to Marie Claire – a far cry from her typical designer garb. Gaga dressed down (yes, it is a bridesmaid’s dress, but this is Mama Monster we’re talking about after all) for the wedding of her good friend Bo O’Connor in Cabo San Lucas. Unfortunately, she was forced to attend the wedding without a +1, because her boyfriend, Chicago Fire actor Taylor Kinney is currently off filming The Other Woman alongside Cameron Diaz.
But it wouldn’t be like Lady Gaga to let a minor detail like that one cramp her style. She used the wedding as an occasion to let loose and show off her new and improved slender physique. She has recently lost 30lbs, following her hip surgery. The surgery was reportedly the reason Gaga cancelled her US tour, according to New York Daily News.
Following the tragic events of the twin towers bombing on September 11th 2001 in New York City, Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda's leader Osama Bin Laden was the most wanted man in the entire world. He had managed to evade capture and certain execution for nearly ten years when, in the year of the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, he was found by the extraordinary Navy SEAL Team 6 and shot dead at his residence in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2nd. The event, however tarnished with conspiracy theories and speculation, marked a moment in history and was seen as a giant step in the current war on terror.
'Zero Dark Thirty' is the gritty historical drama telling the story of when Bin Laden was successfully captured and assassinated by a remarkable group of CIA operatives whose covert operations and well-kept secrets gave America their biggest victory in many years. With director Kathryn Bigelow ('Point Break', 'Strange Days') and writer Mark Boal ('In the Valley of Elah') who have previously worked alongside one another on the six time Academy Award winning war flick 'The Hurt Locker', it is set to be a seminal movie that may itself become an important part of history. It is set to be released on January 25th 2013.

Dick Wolf’s Chicago Fire premieres on NBC tonight (October 10, 2012) but has he retained the charm of Law and Order in this new venture? Starring 'House’s' Jesse Spencer (as Lt. Mathew Casey) and Taylor Kinney (as Lt. Kelly Severide), 'Chicago Fire' is based on the stories of a group of fire-fighters. Previews of the show have focused on these two central characters but it doesn’t seem that Jesse and Taylor alone can prevent 'Chicago Fire' from being extinguished by the critics before it has even started.
New York Daily News’s David Hinckley remarked that he was all too conscious of the fact that he was watching “actors playing firemen and first responders,” meaning that 'Chicago Fire' is struggling to break the barrier between screen and viewer and really drag them into their world. The two characters seem to provide the bulk of the dramatic tension, but Hinckley was left wondering where their storyline would go for the rest of the series, as it seemed to have been resolved by the end of the first episode. He surmises: “Chicago Fire scores ambition points simply for attempting a firefighter show, which is much harder than a credible cop show. It also has complex and possibly interesting ideas and subplots. By the time most viewers finish, though, their flame of interest may be flickering.”
Kansas City Star couldn’t help but compare the show to 'Law and Order' and found the script a little lacking: “there’s not a single line of Lenny Briscoe-worthy dialogue in “Chicago Fire,” with clichéd insight dripping from the mouths of beefy Bears fans like bratwurst grease. By the time someone snarls, “He’s a dirty cop, the kind of guy that gives the rest of us a bad name,” you’re ready for the sirens to start wailing.” Dick Wolf had better be hoping that episode two can turn the tide of opinion that seems to be hurtling against it.
