Charli xcx vows not to repeat past mistakes as she focuses on film
Charli xcx wants people to "not see Charli xcx in my performances" in her acting roles.
Charli xcx has admitted she is determined to avoid the missteps she made in music as she builds her acting career.
The 360 singer, who has already reached the top of the charts, says her priority now is navigating film with care and maturity.
She told the new issue of A Rabbit's Foot: “I’ve paid the price for some decisions in music and I don’t want to do that with film — because I love film much more than music."
Charli added that her ultimate goal is to disappear into her roles, citing Tom Waits’ performance in Jim Jarmusch’s 2025 flick Father Mother Sister Brother as inspiration.
She continued: “My biggest goal is to disappear, for people to not see Charli xcx in my performances."
Having already conquered one industry, Charli is approaching her new path with the experience of someone who knows the stakes — and is intent on proving she can blend seamlessly into the world of cinema.
The 33-year-old pop star - who, after years of being a cult favourite in the hyperpop scene, became a mainstream superstar thanks to her 2024 album Brat - will star in A24’s The Moment, based on her original concept and directed by Aidan Zamiri. The project is the first co-production from her new venture, studio365.
Charli is also set to appear in several upcoming films, including Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death remake, Greg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights Of Hero, Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice, and Pete Ohs’ Erupcja.
The Boom Clap hitmaker was also tasked with writing the soundtrack to Emerald Fennell's erotic adaptation of Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.
