At the age of thirteen, she recorded 'Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart' and 'You'll Never Know' at Nola Recording Studios as her first recorded demos. In her teens, she became a nightclub singer, with a performance at 'The Lion' - a gay club in Greenwich - in 1960. At this time, she changed her name from Barbara to Barbra.

Barbra Streisand: Career

In 1962, Streisand made her Broadway debut in the show, 'I Can Get It For You Wholesale', earning a Tony Award nomination for the performance. The same year, she signed a record deal with Columbia Records and released 'The Barbra Streisand Album' in 1963. She was given her own television show in 1965, entitled 'My Name is Barbra'. She made she screen debut with a reprisal of her 1966 Broadway role in the film 'Funny Girl' in 1968. The role won Streisand the 1968 Academy Award for Best Actress.

Streisand went on to film 'Hello, Dolly!' in 1969, 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever' and 'The Owl and the Pussycat', both released in 1970. In 1972, Streisand founded her own production company, Barwood Films, and stared in its first production, 'Up The Sandbox'. In 1978, her collaborative song with Neil Diamond, 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers', reached the number one spot on Billboard's Hot 100.

In 1980, Streisand released her highest selling album, 'Guilty', her twenty second studio album which was released with the help of Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees. The album contained another number one hit, 'Woman in Love'. In 1983, Streisand made her directorial debut with the film adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's short story, 'Yentl, The Yeshiva Boy'. In 1992, Streisand became the first woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Director for the film The Prince of Tides.

Following the release of 1996's 'The Mirror Has Two Faces', Streisand took an eight year hiatus from acting. She returned in 2004 to appear in the sequel to 'Meet The Parents', entitled, 'Meet The Fockers' and she reprised the role in 2010 for the third film in the series. In 2012, she stared in 'The Guilt Trip' (originally titled 'My Mother's Curse') alongside Seth Rogan. Bab's # 1 Canadain Fan's picture

Bab's # 1 Canad...

I had a bit of luck & alot of networking with a friend who works in enterainment in the U.K. & U.S.A. in obtaining 2 tickets for Barbra's "The Concert" world tour when she performed @ Madison Square Gardens in New York City on June 26, 1994. By far the most memorable & totally awesome concert event that I have ever had the pleasure of attending. She was funnier than I thought she would be & shorter/smaller too. I like how she made "fun of" or joked about her hairstyles, nails, past boyfriends, movie roles etc. She introduced several celebrity guests at the show but made the most out of the fact that her 2 god daughters were in attendance. I liked the fact that the antique furniture on stage was her own. I shopped 'til I dropped at the Barbra bontique in the lobby at intermission. I even had a glass of champagne with strawberries. Babs was & continues to be a CLASS act. Saw her as well at The Air Canada Centre in Ocotber 2006 & it was a totally different show. Barbra has never ever rained on my parade but rather she & her music have been with me since the age of 9 when I heard "Second Hand Rose" for the 1st time! Streisand is 1 of the few remaining & reigning "divas" that truly acts out a song when she is singing. Thanks Barbra for all you have done & continue to do for justice, human rights & kindness in this challenging world!

I am not sure why some people want to make negatiave comments about someone that they don't really know....I think she is an excellent performer and is entitled to her personal life ...even though we might want to know...we dont have the right to invade her privacy ...She looks really happy since marrying Brolin who I think is a real hunk....but enough said ...as a person who would llike to know I respect her privacy...I love her as a performer and wish her and her fammily well....
