Indie newcomers The Cases share new single, Mr Penny
Preston's hottest new talent, The Cases, are ones to watch ahead of their debut EP.
Preston outfit The Cases continue their rapid rise with the release of their new single Mr Penny, the title track from their forthcoming debut EP.
The band have quickly become ones to watch, first building a huge TikTok following before translating that buzz into a sold‑out headline tour and major festival slots at Isle of Wight and Y Not?.
Mr Penny arrives as their first release under a new deal with This Feeling Records in partnership with LAB Records — a pairing that places them firmly among the UK’s next‑wave indie contenders.
This Feeling’s grassroots‑to‑main‑stage track record and LAB’s recent chart success with The K’s underline the momentum behind the band.
The single is the perfect listen for fans of Royston Club, The Kooks and Courteeners.
Lyrically, it tells the darkly comic tale of a man who marries the wrong woman, only to discover that “till death do us part” might come sooner than expected.
Frontman Harry Hornsby explained: “Everyone’s got a chance of getting hurt in a relationship. When it works, great — but if not, you can end up like Mr Penny. It’s fictional, but it’s something a lot of people go through, especially when you think you’ve found ‘the one’ at 16 or 19.”
The track leads the way for the Mr Penny EP — a four‑song journey through young love, heartbreak and the messy aftermath.
Bassist James Maher added: “The whole thing tells a story of the different ways people take a breakup. We’d all been through it, so those emotions were real — upset, anger, and then realising nothing’s that deep because we’re still young.”
The Cases recorded the EP last year at Liverpool’s Kempston Street with Courteeners' producer Chris Taylor, pooling their own money to make it happen — a DIY move that reflects the hunger behind one of the North West’s most exciting new bands.
The Cases’ second headline tour will wrap with their biggest show yet at Manchester’s Gorilla — a date that sold out a full four months in advance. The rising Preston outfit will also join Alex Spencer for select shows, alongside a growing list of festival appearances set to expand as the year goes on. Grab remaining tickets here.
