Tame Impala's new album Deadbeat will be released next month.

The project of Australian instrumentalist Kevin Parker returned in July with the track End of Summer and their fifth studio record will be available on October 17.

The album draws inspiration from the bush doof culture - electronic music festivals held in remote Western Australian bushland - reimagining Tame Impala as a “future primitive rave act”.

Lyrically, Deadbeat explores themes of self-doubt and stagnation, portraying “an endless bummer, a self-deprecating f***-up stuck in a negative feedback loop when he should have long had his s*** together.”

A description on the album's pre-order store: “Deadbeat sounds like the work of an artist with a levelled up mastery and bristles with a revitalised energy for experimentation. 12 songs crafted with a newfound embrace of spontaneity for the renowned perfectionist. How that manifests is a distinct minimalism and crunch to many of the tracks, with a clutch of crucial details, timbres and textures that add an ineffably new dimension to the sound, as well as a richer, more playful vocal range than ever.”

The album announcement comes after Tame Impala released the music video for their single Loser, which stars Stranger Things actor Joe Keery.

Since debuting in 2010 with Innerspeaker, Tame Impala has become a major force in modern psych-rock, influencing numerous artists and collaborating with acts such as Lady Gaga, Travis Scott, and Kendrick Lamar. Known for meticulous production and multi-instrumental talents, Parker continues to push genre boundaries and redefine contemporary music.

The artist collaborated with Dua Lipa by producing her 2024 album Radical Optimism and recalled the "wild" experience of joining on her stage at Glastonbury last year.

He told The Guardian newspaper last year: "The nicest thing about it was that it was Dua headlining Glastonbury, which is something she has wanted to do since she was a kid.

"I felt like I had a seat in someone's dream that they were living - I was just happy to be a part of it."

Deadbeat is available for pre-order now, with exclusive vinyl colour variants offered through Urban Outfitters and indie record stores. Limited edition numbered cassettes will be sold exclusively via Brooklyn Vegan and Alternative Press.
