Carlos Gutierrez is a divorced Elvis impersonator on the Buenos Aires circuit. So great is his passion for Elvis that he watches concert footage and religiously listens to his songs. Carlos makes the pilgrimage to Graceland on his birthday and likes to eat The King's favourite food - banana and peanut butter sandwiches. In fact, he believes he really is Elvis and instructs his friends and family to address him thus.
With his ex-wife, Alejandra (Carlos calls her Priscilla, to her annoyance) they have a daughter, Lisa-Marie. They have joint custody of her but one day, Alejandra tells Carlos she's going to apply for sole custody, due to the fact that he is more concerned about Elvis then he is about his own daughter.
Initially, Carlos lets Alejandra apply for custody; he has a huge concert coming up that he must prepare for. He quits his factory job and devotes his time to rehearsing with his band. But days before the concert, Carlos gets a phone call about a horrific accident that forces him to reassess his priorities.
The Last Elvis is the directorial debut of Armando Bo, who also wrote the screenplay and stars real life Elvis impersonator John McInerny.
