Enoch is a quiet teenage boy with an unusual hobby: he likes to attend funerals. Not just the funerals of relatives but funerals of people he's never met. While attending one funeral, he sees a mysterious girl about his age. 

He sees her again at another funeral but before he can pluck up the courage to say hello, he is caught out by the funeral director. Luckily for Enoch, the mysterious girl comes to his rescue before the police are called. Enoch discovers her name is Annabel and that she knew the deceased, having met him while working at a local hospital.

Annabel and Enoch soon start dating and Annabel discovers that Enoch is followed by the ghost of a World War 2 Japanese kamakazi pilot call Hiroshi. And as things get very serious, Annabel is frightened of telling the truth to Enoch - that she is really a patient at the hospital, dying of terminal cancer - for fear of his reaction.
