Glaswegian solo artist Algernon Doll (aka Ewan Grant) releases his brand new single 'Son Of A Gun Brother To None' in celebration of the release of his debut album 'Camomile' out now on Newtown Products records.
The accompanying video is appropriately melancholic; a black and white, super slow motion series of simple images of trees, fields, a woman and a man smoking, all telling what looks to be a love story that's taken a turn for the worst. The misery of the track is reflected through the frequent and often jarring use of minor notes coupled with Ewan's lingering, shaky, almost tearful vocals.
Being part of musical family, it's not surprise that Ewan chose this path in order to express himself and, having suffered from a variety of mental illnesses including series anxiety disorders and manic depression, he certainly had a lot of emotion he needed to release. This goes far in explaining the intense depths his songwriting plunges to on his new album produced by Tom Mitchell (Black Channels, The Barents Sea). Algernon Doll has done various shows supporting an array of different artists including indie/punk artist Franz Nicolay, folk singer Chris T-T and soul artist Willis Earl Beal.
