You're Not What You Used To Be
Hailing from Sheffield, the homeland of the Arctic Monkeys, bands like The Dodgems have a lot to live up to. Their second single, 'You're Not What You Used To Be', is a frail stab at living up to the high standards set by the Monkeys, but neither-the-less notable.
The gradual but natural shaping of a Sheffield sound becomes more and more clear every time you listen to bands from the region. With The Dodgems there's no exception. The endless fists full of energy, passion and hostility, the witty lyrics and that extra bite, is all there in 'You're Not What You Used To Be'. The instrumentation as usual is flawless; in-your-face guitars, heavy bass and racing drumbeats, as for vocals; speechless. The Dodgems are a band well worth keeping your eye on for the future; breathtaking and talented all in the one instance.
'Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)' arrives in April.
The two awards have made for a great 72nd birthday present for the country music icon.
