The Primitives - Never Kill A Secret Album Review

Remember these.

.Tracy Tracy, Paul Court and Tig Williams minus the late Steve Dullaghan? Yes these were collectively known as The Primitives. After twenty years of nothing The Primitives return with their new EP 'Never Kill A Secret' which is available to buy on 7 inch and digital download. 'Never Kill A Secret' is a little teaser to entice fans new and old to come and see this band in the flesh on their March tour. It gives something new to The Primitives faithful that have followed these guys since the year dot.

Naturally without Steve Dullagham the band has had to bring in a new musician which they have in the shape of Ralph Moore stepping in. 'Rattle My Cage' is a great melodic pop song that see's Tracey express her glorious vocals. This is followed by 'Need All The Help I Can Get', a track similar to the opener but with a bit more speed which creates an upbeat quirky number. The title track 'Never Kill A Secret' slows everything down and makes for a soft acoustic number, this gives you a sense of spring which with all these miserable cold dark days is nice. The EP ends how it starts and with the exception of the title track the listener might feel that it's all a little too alike. This isn't to say that the songs are bad but after twenty years you would have expected The Primitives to have gone all-out with four mind blowing tracks, sadly they haven't.

Although this is a "nice" record there isn't anything that excites; when put it to the test against their previous releases, it is like David Haye taking on Audley Harrison; it's not even a contest, the previous stuff wins hands down.
