Benson Boone brings backflips, an American Heart and double denim to The O2 in London
Benson Boone brought his American Heart World Tour to The O2 Arena in London.
Backflips, Beautiful Things and double denim - Benson Boone brought his American Heart World Tour to The O2 Arena on Monday night (03.11.25) and did not disappoint the sell-out crowd.
There were fears that Benson would not be able to perform the first of three nights at the iconic London venue after he was forced to cancel his concert in Birmingham just moments before he was due on stage due to an illness that was affecting his voice and throat (don't worry Birmingham, he has promised to reschedule).
After getting some much-needed rest and recuperation, Benson stepped out on stage at The O2 full of vigour and passion much to the delight and cheers of the crowd.
Benson opened with a trio of songs from his second album American Heart - and I Wanna Be the One You Call, Wanted Man and Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else all inspired mass singalongs and the deafening cheers that should accompany a pop star as hot as him right now.
And the cheers got even louder when Boone backflipped off the top of his piano during Slow It Down.
Boone, 23, oozed confidence as he strutted around his stage, never shy to interact with his fans, many of whom held up signs trying to catch his attention, one of which read "Mr Electric Boone, I want to sing like you".
He also took a moment to reflect during the second section of his set. Introducing his song In the Stars - which he penned after the loss of his great-grandmother at the age of 96.
Boone told fans that he hoped the track would help them deal with any loss and grief in their own lives.
Before performing the song from his 2024 debut LP Fireworks and Rollerblades, he said: "Ladies and gentlemen, this next song is a very special song, one that I love very much. One that I would hope there are a good amount of people that this is also a very special song for you.
“A few years ago somebody in my life that I love very much and that I miss very much passed away.
"That is always hard, no matter who you are. But something about being a human being, being on Earth is no matter who you are, or where you come from, how much money you come from, what country, what language, what accent, what skin colour, we’re all bound to lose people that we love in our lifetimes and you can’t undo it and it will suck every time. It will hurt every time. I think whenever you find yourself in a moment like that there’s always something, a person, a place, a thing, a song, whatever it is, there’s always something that can pull you out of that, just a little bit. For me, that was writing this song, putting it down on paper, the verses and choruses and singing it and performing it. It helped me a lot. But I think the loveliest thing about this song is this is a song about me, about my life, my experiences, somebody that I know, something I felt, something I went through. But when you listen to it it’s no longer about me, it’s about you. It’s about somebody you know, something you went through, an emotion or pain that you felt, someone that you love, then it is your song and everybody’s, not mine.
“So ladies and gentlemen if you have never heard this song before please let me do my job for this one song, let me sing for you, let me perform for you. Listen, take these words in and feel them. I promise you at some point in your life these words will mean something to you. Ladies and gentlemen, the rest of you that do know this song please sing along. This is In the Stars."
After the poignant performance, the highlights from his latest album just kept on coming; Take Me Home, Young American Heart and Mr Electric Blue - which saw Benson don his trademark sparkling double denim - were all met with more cheers and screams.
The evening's cover version was Coldplay's Sparks - from the band's 2000 debut album Parachutes - and Boone brought out his friend-and-collaborator Mr McLean to announce the track using a t-shirt launcher. Old school showmanship at its finest.
Boone closed his show with a rousing rendition of his massive 2024 hit single Beautiful Things, before an encore of Cry sending his fans home happy.
He plays two more shows at The O2 before the American Heart World Tour heads to Europe, beginning with a concert at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, on November 7.
