Indie pop duo Twenty One Pilots are celebrating their first ever US Number 1 album, after the group’s second major label record Blurryface entered at the top of the Billboard 200. It sold 146,000 copies in the week ending May 24th, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Of that figure, a solid 134,000 were direct album sales, a healthy indication of the recent resurgence in physical music purchasing. Blurryface is Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun’s fourth album in total, following their Fueled By Ramen debut Vessel back in 2013.

That record, though it only achieved a Billboard peak of Number 58, has sold steadily ever since its release and currently has sales figures of over a quarter of a million. It’s no surprise that such a word-of-mouth success has achieved such high first-week sales the next time around.

Elsewhere in the charts – just when the Top Ten might have thought it was safe from Taylor Swift’s 1989, which has been ever-present since its release over six months ago but has been at Number 9 for the last month or so, it’s jumped all the way up to Number 2 with 91,000 sales – powered by the Billboard Music Awards at the end of last week, where she won an eye-watering eight awards.

Last week’s Number 1 record, the soundtrack to the blockbusting movie Pitch Perfect 2, falls to Number 3 this week with 74,000 copies. A new entry is at Number 4, for dance artist Zedd’s new album True Colors, with 50,000 albums sold.

Reappearing in the Top Ten, also due to her showing at the BMAs, is Meghan Trainor’s Title, jumping seven places to Number 5 (47,000 units). A reissued deluxe version of country star Brantley Gilbert’s Just As I Am, an album released over a year ago, jumps a huge sixty-three places to Number 6 this week, with sales of 39,000 for the week (or a handy 358% increase).

Ed Sheeran’s X also comes back, with sales of 38,000 meaning he climbs six places to Number 7. Dropping three places is the long-lasting Furious 7 soundtrack at Number 8 (36,000 sales).

Jamie Foxx sneaks in at Number 9 with a new entry, his fourth US Top Ten album, for Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses (36,000). The soundtrack for Fifty Shades of Grey hangs on in there at Number 10, with sales 35,000.
