As well as being the leading man, Tatum will also produce the forthcoming flick, along with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company's Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films' Simon Kinberg, Deadline reports. 'Robocop' screenwriter Josh Zetumer is expected to pen the screenplay.

Tatum was first confirmed the play 'Gambit' when Lauren Shuler Donner, who produced 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past,' announced the casting news to Total Film earlier this year during a red carpet interview.

"He's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. And he's got a really good heart," she said. "He'll be great for Gambit, and he's a Southerner, too! He's not from New Orleans, but he is a Southerner, and he understands that world."

Prior to being cast as the superhero, Tatum, who was born in Cullman, Alabama, expressed his interest in starring in the production because they both share southern roots.

"There's a lot of superheroes out there. I'd like to play Gambit," the 'Magic Mike' star said. "Because I'm from New Orleans, around that area, and my dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do the Cajun accent."
