Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill headed to the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas on Monday night (March 12, 2012) to premiere their new cop-comedy movie 21 Jump Street. In the run-up to the premiere, movie industry insiders had already commented that Jonah and Channing's 'bromance' was enough of a charm to rival the likes of George Clooney and Brad Pitt. And at last night's premier, Hollywood Reporter noted that their chemistry, both on screen and off, was enough to lend the night an excitable atmosphere. During the Q&A session after the screening, Channing Tatum leant over to embrace his co-star, much to the delight of those in attendance.
HR reports: "The crowd at the Paramount was laughing, cheering and whooping the film's numerous gags from start to finish." It may have been overshadowed, in scale by the Los Angeles premiere of The Hunger Games but the response from the crowd - who were won over by the "loopy drug humour" and "winking self-referential remake humour" - showed that Sxsw knows its hipster audience well enough to bring the 21 Jump Street premiere to town during festival week.
Dressed in their police uniforms as they arrived at the red carpet, the Daily Mail reports that Hill and Tatum were "mobbed" by eager fans. Jonah seemed genuinely overwhelmed by the response, telling the gathered crowd "Whatever happens in the next week, we'll have this night forever. You guys are fucking awesome."
