Rivera and six of her entourage, as well as the pilot, were all that were on board the light aircraft as she made her way from the Mexican city of Monterrey to Toluca, while toured Mexico.

The late singer's remains were escorted back into the United States by her three brothers, who had made the trip down o Mexico in order to identify her body earlier this week. The body of Rivera, a native of Southern California, was escorted from Long Beach Airport by police to a local mortuary, where dozens of fans waited.

Whilst the results of DNA tests to confirm her identity are still pending, her family have already conceded that she is dead. One of her brothers, Pedro Rivera Jr., said during a news conference at the family;s Lakewood home, "We have received 100 percent confirmation that my sister Jenni is gone to be with the Lord. She is in the presence of God now. They did show pictures to my brothers of the body; it is not the full body."

Our thoughts are with her family.
