Avril Lavigne (born Avril Lavigne Whibley, 27.9.1984) is a Grammy award-nominated singer, musician, actress and fashion designer. She was ranked the seventh most powerful Canadian in Hollywood in 2006.
Childhood: Avril Lavigne, the daughter of Judy and John lavigne, was born in Ontario, Canada. Her Father is French-Canadian, and `Avril' is French for `April.' Judy Lavigne was the first to spot her daughter's talents, when Avril began singing along to church songs, aged two. Lavigne won a competition to sing with Shania Twain in 1998 and appeared onstage with Twain in Ottowa to sing `What Made You Say That?' Cliff Fabri, her first professional manager discovered her singing country covers at a bookstore in Ontario.)At 16, she was signed to Arista Records by it's A&R representative, Ken Krongard
Musical Career: Lavigne's first album, Let Go was co-written by Avril and songwriting team, The Matrix, on piano and guitar. The album was released in 2002 and reached number one in Australia, Canada and The UK. Aged 17 at the time, this made Avril Lavigne the youngest female solo artist to have a number one album in the UK up to that time.
Let Go reached four times platinum status and has now sold over 16 million copies worldwide.
Lavigne won the Best New Artist award at the 2002 MTV video Music Awards and won four Juno Awards in 2003 (from six nominations. She also won a World Music Award for being the World's Best Selling Canadian Singer. In addition to this, she was nominated for eight Grammy Awards
The second album released by Avril Lavigne was entitled Under My Skin (2004). It debuted at number one in many countries, including The US, the UK, Japan and Canada. More than 380,000 copies were sold in the US in the first week alone.
Most of the album was co-written by Lavigne, with Canadian singer songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, and some tracks were co-written by Ben Moody of the band Evanescence as well as her former lead guitarist Evan Taubenfeld and other band members.
The songwriter also co-wrote the song `Breakaway', which was recorded by Kelly Clarkson and peaked inside the US top ten and was a significant hit for Clarkson.
To promote the album, Avril lavigne undertook a `Live and Surprise' tour, playing acoustic sets in shopping malls. The location of the gigs remained a secret until 48 hours before the performance. Other significant performances of this time include representing Canada at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, in 2006. The album has now sold over 8 million copies.
The Best Damn Thing is Avril Lavigne's third album, and was released in 2007. The album debuted at number one in the US. Avril's husband, Derek Whibley, was one producer of the album, along with Rob Cavallo, Butch Walker and Dr Luke.
The Best Damn Thing spawned Lavignes first number one on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the song in question, `Girlfriend' brought about court action against the songwriters, Lavigne and Lukasz Gottwald. Songwriters James Gangwer and Tommy Dunbar claimed that the song ripped-off their 1979 track, `I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,' originally performed by The Rubinoos. In January 2008, however, they retracted the allegations.
Before the BRIT Awards celebrate the last twelve months in music we look forward to the best of the new releases that are due out this February
Unlike the Sue Gray report into alleged law breaking at Number 10, our five favourite forthcoming albums in February all have a confirmed date to be shared. Whilst there are some major releases from Kanye West - Donda 2, Bastille - Give Me The Future and Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point, we've gone for a slightly more select bunch of albums. Sea Power - Everything Was Forever, Frank Turner - FTHC, Cate LeBon - Pompeii and Metronomy's Small World were all close to making the cut but in the end, without any intervention necessary from the Met, we've chosen an eclectic mix of pop-punk, art-rock, leftfield pop, folk and space rock.

With her seventh album due out any time soon it's time to take a look back at where it all began for Sk8er Grrrl Avril
Avril Lavigne was only seventeen when she released her hugely successful debut album Let Go, back in 2002. The breakthrough album from the then young Canadian, not only brought her music and style to a global audience it also turned out to be hugely influential. Avril Lavigne has long since been credited with bringing Pop-Punk to the masses but she did so much more than that in hindsight. Whilst it is easy to see Avril's immediate early influence on such acts as Paramore and Kelly Osbourne her long term legacy stretches far further.
Let Go was headed up by it's lead single Complicated, being released three months ahead of the album. The song, which Avril recorded the previous year when she was only 16, was a resounding success. Complicated not only made Avril a household name more-or-less overnight it set records across the globe. Complicated remains one of Avril's best selling tracks to date and peaked at number one in many countries around the world including Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and even Venezuela! Complicated was one of five tracks from the original 13 on the album that Lavigne co-wrote with The Matrix team. The partnership they shared was particularly fruitful on her first album as it also yielded her next two single releases, Sk8er Boi and I'm With You.

The week's music news rounded up, including Queen breaking a streaming record, Taylor Swift using facial recognition tech, and Kanye reaching out to Bob Dylan.
KANYE AND BOB DYLAN COLLABORATION?
In what must be the most unlikely prospective musical alliance in pop history, Kanye West has reached out to none other than legendary songwriter Bob Dylan to ask for a collaboration.
Finding time in his schedule between posting pictures of trees and reigniting his on/off feud with Drake, Kanye took to Twitter to ask Dylan to work together on something unspecified.
The pair performed 'Rockstar' at a Nickelback gig in LA.
You might not like Nickelback's music, or Avril Lavigne's for that matter, but you still can't deny that her appearance with her ex-husband on stage in Los Angeles at the weekend was nothing short of adorable. We love it when ex-couples can remain good friends.

It's been two years since 32-year-old Avril and 42-year-old Chad separated after just two years of marriage, but their situation is clearly still amicable judging by the fact that the band invited her on stage with them for a rendition of 'Rockstar' at the Greek Theatre in LA.
An old theory has returned that Avril is not actually Avril at all.
A conspiracy theory regarding the identity of Avril Lavigne resurfaced last week, suggesting that the popstar hired her doppelganger a few years ago to deal with paparazzi while she lived an ordinary life. It's safe to say there is literally no evidence whatsover to support this idea.
Avril Lavigne at 2016 pre-Grammy party
Oh, that old chestnut. One of the most popular celebrity 'clone' theories out there, somebody has decided to bring back this theory that the Avril Lavigne we see today is, in fact her friend, Melissa Vandella. The conspiracy theorist in question started a thread that started trending on Twitter over the weekend.
Lavigne and Kroeger fell in love in 2012 when they were in the studio writing together, and it seems their professional relationship has endured their recent separation.
E! Online reported on that, although they had gone their separate ways in September, the pair were writing together and working in the studio again. Over the weekend Lavigne, 31, posted a picture on herself on Instagram wearing a cowboy hot and playing an acoustic guitar, with the caption: “YeeHaw! Writing with Chad today.”

The pair had been married for a little over two years, but Lavigne made the sad announcement via social media.
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have announced their separation after just over two years of marriage. On Wednesday evening (September 2nd), the Canadian pop-rocker posted a brief note on her Instagram announcing that she and the Nickelback frontman were going their separate ways.
“It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today,” 30 year old Lavigne wrote in the caption underneath a picture she posted from their wedding day. “Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments.”

Looks like these two singers have put any bad blood behind them.
Avril Lavigne became the latest surprise guest of Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour, as she joined the singer onstage in San Diego on Saturday night. The two popstars were rumoured to have fallen out earlier in the year, but its appears they’ve patched things up, as Swift declared her love for Lavigne and her 2002 hit ‘Complicated’.
After months of speculation about the singer’s health, Avril Lavigne has finally revealed why she’s been out of the spotlight in recent months.
Singer Avril Lavigne has said she now feels 80% better after been diagnosed with Lyme disease shortly after her 30th birthday in October. The singer revealed she’s been battling the disease to People magazine, after keeping quiet about her health problems for months.
Avril was diagnosed with Lyme disease late last year.
"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," Lavigne told the magazine. "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”
Fans take to Twitter to wish the Canadian singer a speedy recovery after a DM exchange revealed she is suffering from an undisclosed illness.
Avril Lavigne may have just revealed that the reason why she hasn't released any new music in over a year, nor been seen in public for quite some time, is because she is suffering with an undisclosed illness.
Lavigne is currently suffering from an undisclosed illness
The Canadian singer first hinted that she was having issues with her health during a Twitter exchange with a concerned fan over the weekend, as she asked the user to "keep me in your prayers." But Lavigne did not identify the illness nor release a statement on the matter.
