Friends And Family Come Together To Honour Robin Williams At Private Memorial

A private memorial service has been held for Robin Williams six weeks after the actor tragically took his own life. The ceremony took place on Saturday (September 27th) at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre and celebrated Williams’ life with songs and stories.

Williams’ widow Susan Schneider and his three children Zak, Zelda, and Cody all spoke at the ceremony along with friends of the actor who shared anecdotes. The ‘Celebration of Life’ was opened by Williams’ longtime friend Billy Crystal who is said to have led a tearful tribute, according to the New York Daily News.

A source told the NYDN, “It was a true celebration from beginning to end. It was emotional, but it was also filled with incredible laughter.” Before adding, ”Whoopi told an amazing anecdote about when Billy, Robin and she went to Washington D.C. to meet Ted Kennedy. It was something about Robin saying, ‘Okay, if Ted says he’ll drive, let’s regroup,’ Whoopi could barely get through it she was laughing so hard’.

Other stars who came to play tribute included Ben Stiller, George Lucas, Danny De Vito, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jeff Bridges. The guests were also said to have been given wristbands that included an image of a hummingbird and the message “Love the stillness of life”.

Williams was found dead at his California home on August 11th at aged 63, his death was later ruled as a suicide. His widow Susan Schneider later revealed he had been struggling with deep depression as well as being diagnosed as in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease.
