For years, a war has raged across Mexico. Cartels traffic drugs and oil across the border into the United States, allowing them to live like kings back in Mexico, with enough money to pay off police officers and government officials. Depending on where you go, the Cartels might be the real power. But there are people who are fighting back, tooth and nail, to rid the lands of the Cartels. On the American side, Tim "Nailer" Foley leads an Arizona Border Patrol, while in Mexico, Dr. José Mireles rallies the people into a group called Autodefensas, intent on breaking the fear the Cartels hold over the people, and fighting back against them. This is the true story of the people standing up to some of the most ruthless criminals in the world.

Directed by Matthew Heinemann ('Our Time', 'Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare'), 'Cartel Land' takes a look at the resistance movement against Mexican Drug Cartels on both sides of the border. The director won the Best Director Award and Special Jury Award for Cinematography at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival for his work. 'Cartel Land' is set for limited release in the US on 3th July 2015.
