Morrissey: 'Crowdfunding Is Desperate And Insulting'

The former The Smiths star is currently without a music deal and has a history of falling out with his record company paymasters, but he is adamant he will never try to raise cash online to bankroll a project.

Morrissey insists it is unfair to ask fans to pay upfront when they have already made significant financial contributions to his career, and he also hints that he is now focused on touring rather than recording new material.

He tells Spanish newspaper El Pais, "It is a desperate measure, and insulting to your audience. We have already provided sufficient amounts of money. What is the next thing you're going to ask?... (Touring is) the only option left (and) luckily (for) me (it) is very good and exciting. The only unpleasant part of this (is) that whenever a concert is cancelled the story captures attention; but if the concert took place, it would hardly be mentioned. Many people enjoy writing negative things about me. Which is fine with me. Let them go if it makes them happy."
