The Helmholtz Resonators - Shadow People Music Video

Electronic pop band The Helmholtz Resonators present a fascinatingly surreal video for their latest track 'Shadow (People)'; part of their double A side single release which also includes the song 'Sunshine' and will be released on July 14th 2014 through Genepool Records.

The video is fairly simple in its execution, featuring close-up images of made-up facial features - mainly miming lipsticked mouths, Rocky Horror style - and episodic views of cloudy skies. But there's something slightly grotesque about it; the caked on make-up feels rather sinister and the overcast skies, knife-wielding shadow and subsequent blood imagery adds an engaging element of horror. Coupled with the actual tune, there's something comedic about the tone as the song is so light-hearted; the electronic buzz of simple psychedelic synths with a xylophonic effect and a strong 80s vibe to the rock infused vocals makes it a super catchy party number.

The Helmholtz Resonators are a five-piece group from London with a very unusual musical persona; described as 'a renegade group of audio scientific oddballs', they have been particularly influence by the science in sound and the ideas behind concept albums. The band are Garland Vanderbilt, Carlton Breezy, Chladni Plates, Vandamme Laudenkleer and Frithel Stock-Stone - here's assuming that these weren't the names their mothers gave them.
