Lady GaGa fans the world over (or, well, nationwide) faced disappointing news this week, as the pop icon was forced to cancel her tour because of a hip injury.

Initially, there were just four planned cancellations, People Magazine reports, but in this latest announcement, the entire Born This Way Ball tour has been put on hold indefinitely. The initial announcement that two shows (February 13 14), as well as two additional dates, would be cancelled was made on Tuesday by Gaga’s concert promoters Live Nation. On Wednesday however, the cancellation was expanded to include the entire American tour. The explanation? Live Nation cited “a case of synovitis”, or in layman’s terms, a severe inflammation of the joints. However, this was later amended with the following statement by LN:

“After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip. She will need surgery to repair the problem, followed by strict down time to recover. This unfortunately, will force her to cancel the tour so she can heal.”

It’s a blow to expectant fans of the superstar, we’re sure, but even Lady Gaga is only human after all, no matter how hard many news outlets try to convince us otherwise. Surely though, the singer will get back on that horse… err… stage in no time. In the meantime, refunds for purchased tickets will be available at the point of purchase starting today (Feb. 14).
